Negotiations 101 – Intro – a series on negotiating
Although we might not be aware of it, negotiating is a key aspect of our everyday lives. Negotiations do not only take place when we are making a big purchase, but also when we discuss where to eat dinner with our friends or what time to meet up. Considering that negotiations are such an important part of our lives, I thought I would write a small three part series on some negotiating techniques and strategies.
I am by no means a negotiating expert. I have not read numerous books or studied how to control people’s minds and how they think, but I do understand the basics and it has proven to be quite useful for me. When I was in college, I took a course on negotiations, which was very helpful in teaching me the proper way to negotiate. Since taking that class, I have used those negotiation tactics for just about everything, including the way I negotiate real estate deals for my clients. The next post in this series will examine how to approach a negotiation and the mind-set behind different negotiations.
